Elizabeth Motorcyclist Killed After Colliding With Vehicle In Newark: Prosecutor A 40-year-old Elizabeth motorcyclist was killed in a crash in Newark on Saturday, Aug. 9, authorities said. At 5:15 p.m., a motorcycle was traveling westbound on Thomas Street at an increased rate of speed when it collided with the bumper of a 2024 Acura and lost control, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said. Leandro Cardoso Da Costa was pronounced dead at University Hospital, authorities said. The driver of the Acura and his passenger were not injured, authorities said. The investigation is ongoing, authorities said.

Jersey City Man Sexually Assaulted Woman As She Entered Residence: Prosecutor A 35-year-old Jersey City man was arrested by Hudson County Regional S.W.A.T. on Friday, Aug. 8 and charged with sexually assaulting a woman last month, authorities said. At 11:30 p.m., on Saturday, July 26, a woman said Richard Murphy physically and sexually assaulted her as she entered a residence on Sussex Street, Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello said. The woman was transported to a nearby hospital where she was treated for her injuries, Mello said. Murphy is charged with aggravated sexual assault, burglary and aggravated assault, Mello said.

Man, 72, Dies Bodysurfing In Ocean Grove, Officials Confirm A 72-year-old body surfer died after being pulled from the waters of Ocean Grove Monday, Aug. 4, authorities and his family said. At 11 a.m., first responders were on scene for a man, later identified as Donald Gill, having a medical emergency, Neptune Township police said.
